Employment Program
This program helps immigrant and refugee high school students (grades 10-12) develop the employability skills required to enter and successfully participate in the Canadian labour market through employment preparation workshops/ training and assistance in gaining hands-on, practical workplace experience with Manitoba employers.
There are three programs for newcomer youth who are interested in finding a job in Canada:
Stream 1: Career Driven Internship
Aim is to provide a successful transition from high school into career-related work (September, 2009 – August, 2010, 1 intake: 30 students per year)
Stream 2: Fast-track in hospitality (A&W)
For students who have no or limited Canadian work experiences, and are interested in working and/or potentially developing a career in Hospitality industry (3 intakes per year, 15 per intake; 6 Saturdays training, 4hr. each day)
Stream 3: Individual Career Coaching & Work Placement
For students who do not need or want to be in a structured program and may have various employment needs (year-round, on-going)
Individual or group psycho-social support is provided by social workers
